RESIDENTS have escaped a house fire that engulfed a Gillieston Heights home with no injuries, fire authorities have confirmed.

Crews from Abermain, Maitland and Morpeth brigades were called to the suburb about 5pm on Tuesday to find the property fully alight on Holland Crescent.

Fire and Rescue NSW said there were large volumes of smoke pouring from the single-level house when they arrived.

Kurri Kurri and Rutherford crews began defending the neighbouring houses while Maitland firefighters tackled the main blaze from the front of the property.

"The residents managed to evacuate with no injuries," Fire and Rescue NSW Station 374 Maitland said in a statement.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation.

Extinguishing the blaze took more than 20 firefighters over an hour.

The property suffered significant damage but was contained to the single structure.

Investigations into the fire's cause are ongoing.
