Police are yet to arrest anyone in connection with the shooting murder of a 61-year-old grandmother in the doorway of her Stockton home last week.

State Crime Command police and Newcastle detectives have formed Strike Force Backhouse to investigate the killing, which took place when Stacey Klimovitch answered her front door in Queen Street just before 8pm on Wednesday.

One of her three daughters, 31, and infant grandson were at the home when the well-known retired swimming teacher was gunned down, but were not injured before the shooter fled along Little William Street.

Detective Superintendent Wayne Humphrey said last week the shooting was believed to be targeted.

Police said in a statement on Monday the investigation is ongoing and detectives were continuing to call for anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the attack to immediately contact them.

Meanwhile, donations are continuing to help Ms Klimovitch's family cover funeral costs and other expenses they face in the wake of the tragedy.

The community has so far raised more than $18,000 through the Go Fund Me page set up by four Newcastle and Stockton sporting groups with close ties to the family.

Anyone with information that could help investigators can contact Crime Stoppers through the online portal or by phoning 1800 333 000. Tips can be given to police anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
