The Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC) 2026 Spring Split has officially been delayed to the end of April as Riot Games continues its search for a new tournament organizer, extending uncertainty around the region’s competitive future.
In an update shared by the league, Riot confirmed that the delay comes after the NLC’s former tournament operator stepped away from league operations, leaving the competition unable to proceed as scheduled. While discussions with potential partners are ongoing, no replacement has been finalized yet.
“To ensure we land this in the right way, we need a bit more time,” Riot said on X, confirming the Spring Split will now begin later than initially planned.
At the time, the league’s ability to run its Spring Split was already in doubt, and this latest update suggests those concerns have yet to be fully resolved. Beyond simply securing a new organizer, the developer is also reassessing the broader structure of the league.
According to the update, the company is evaluating both short and long-term solutions to ensure stability across the region, which includes teams from the UK, Ireland, and the Nordics. This includes exploring potential format changes, signaling that the eventual return of the NLC may not look the same as before.
The delay is likely to impact teams and fans alike, particularly as the NLC serves as a key Tier 2 ecosystem for emerging talent in Northern Europe. Extended downtime can disrupt player development, team operations, and visibility for organizations competing in the region.
Riot has not provided a confirmed start date for now, beyond a late April target. A full update, including details on the new tournament organizer, format, and finalized schedule, is expected in the coming weeks as the developer finalizes its talks with potential new partners.
Until then, the NLC 2026 remains in a holding pattern, with its Spring Split delayed and its future structure still taking shape.
