NL Interviews: Sulabh founder Bindeshwar Pathak on the sorry state of sewage disposal

Shocking but true, the drinking water in our city pipes is polluted by human waste. In Delhi, the faecal matter released by the people of Haryana into the Yamuna river is served into the water taps, without being completely filtered.

Bindeshwar Pathak, the toilet man of India, the founder of the Sulabh movement, which has done a great job of almost eradicating scavenging of human waste by fellow human beings, speaks to Manoj Raghuvanshi on Swachh Bharat where everyone is forced to drink faecal matter of people who live upstream.

The idea behind this interview was to nudge the government to ensure that all housing societies, schools, colleges. hotels, hospitals etc first treat their sewage, and then release it into the local river. The interview also seeks a policy that would ensure that the water which is delivered in our taps at home is properly treated, and devoid of urine and faeces.
