A further 3,077 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours — including nine of the new Omicron variant.
Latest data shows there are 582 Covid patients in Scottish hospitals which is up six from yesterday. There are currently 41 people with the disease being treated in ICUs.
Meanwhile, there are 53 Covid patients in Ayrshire hospitals while fewer than five people are being treated for the illness in the region's intensive care units.
A further 11 people have died from the virus in the last 24 hours meaning Scotland's death toll from the virus remains at 9,672.
However, 12,216 deaths have been registered in Scotland where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate up to Sunday, December 5.
There have now been a total of 108 confirmed cases of Omicron in Scotland.
In terms of Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, East Ayrshire has the highest rate in the country – at 640.6 as of Tuesday, December 7.
Falkirk has the second-highest infection rate at 569.3 while East Dunbartonshire is third with 512.2.
In terms of Ayrshire's remaining two local authorities, South Ayrshire's rate stands at 389.7 while North Ayrshire's is 367.2.
Of the 257 new cases reported in Ayrshire, 116 were in East Ayrshire with 78 in North Ayrshire and 63 in South Ayrshire.
