Nine more confirmed coronavirus deaths in North East hospitals

Nine more people in our region have died in hospital after contracting Covid-19.

The figures have been released by NHS England and cover confirmed cases up to 5pm on April 25.

The total death toll for the country now stands at 20,732 an increase of 413 patients from Saturday's data.

Figures only include deaths in hospitals and the actual national death toll - including people dying at home or in care homes - is assumed to be higher.

The figures which are released each day often include previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.

This is because of the time it takes for deaths to be confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19, for post-mortem examinations to be processed, and for data from the tests to be validated.

The figures published today show April 8 currently has the highest total for the most hospital deaths occurring on a single day: 828.
