Nikola Vlasic’s goals, Arthur Masuaku impressing, Nathan Trott’s chance - West Ham loan latest

West Ham United currently have ten players away from the club out on loan for the duration of the 2022/23 season.

While the majority of them are currently on season-long stays in the lower leagues of English football, three of them are currently dotted across Europe, getting chances in the top-flights of Italian, Turkish and Danish football at present.

With the Hammers not playing their match against Newcastle United on Sunday following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, here is a round-up of how West Ham’s jet-setting trio are faring overseas.

Arthur Masuaku (Besiktas)

First to depart on loan this summer was left-back Arthur Masuaku with David Moyes not seeing a route for him getting regular minutes this term. Masuaku subsequently moved to Turkey to join Besiktas for the campaign, one in which they would be without European football at any level for the first time in a decade having finished sixth in the Super Lig last term.

Since his arrival, Masuaku has played in all five of Besiktas’ league games and has been a key figure in their recent run of form that has seen them pick up 13 points from a possible 15.

Playing at left-back, Masuaku has helped his loan club keep one clean sheet and has also chipped in with two assists, keeping a shutout on debut against Kayserispor prior to back-to-back assists in home wins over Karagumruk and Sivasspor.

Following their recent run of form, Besiktas sit top of the league, ahead of Konyaspor by two clear points heading into a meeting with Istanbul Basaksehir on Monday, who are competing in the group stages of this season’s Europa Conference League alongside the Hammers.

Nikola Vlasic (Torino)

Following his big-money move to the London Stadium last year, Vlasic also left the club on loan this summer just days after making the bench for the opening weekend defeat to Manchester City last month.

Like Masuaku, Vlasic has played in all five of his loan club’s league games so far, making his debut as a half-time substitute against Monza before four straight starts since then against Lazio, Cremonese, Atalanta and Lecce.

In the latter of those three games, Vlasic has found the net in all of them, inspiring wins over Cremonese and Lecce, despite being unable to avoid defeat against Atalanta.

Torino currently sit sixth in the Serie A standings with 10 points from a possible 15 so far, above the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina. However, their strong start to the season may be tested on Saturday when they take on Inter.

Nathan Trott (Vejle)

A left-field European loan exit came for Nathan Trott, with the young goalkeeper heading to Denmark to join league leaders Vejle on loan.

Trott, who was fourth choice being Lukasz Fabianski, Alphonse Areola and Darren Randolph, was allowed to go out on loan to get more experience, although in his early days in Denmark, he has not played all that much yet.

The 23-year-old, who has previously had stints with AFC Wimbledon and Nancy, has been left on the bench for Velje’s two league games so far but did make his debut in the second round of the Sydbank Pokalen, keeping a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over fourth tier side BK Marienlyst.
