Nigel Winterburn and David Seaman agree on what Arsenal should do about Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal legends Nigel Winterburn and David Seaman think that the club will regret letting Alexandre Lacazette go and have suggested that the should look to keep hold of him.

As the Frenchman’s contract expires at the end of next June, he will be free to talk to new clubs as early as January, but his performance against Crystal Palace in the week showed that he still has plenty to offer Arsenal in this set-up.

football.london reported in August that Lacazette is expected to run down his contract at the Emirates Stadium and move on for free next summer.

Whilst that’s totally in his own right, it could end up being a mistake on Arsenal’s part.

Asked if the club will regret losing Lacazette, Winterburn told TribalFootball.com, on behalf of FreeSuperTips: "It's looking that way.

"Arsenal's policy, this season particularly, is to bring in younger players, but then you have to respect the decision on Lacazette's behalf.

"He may feel he isn't getting enough game time and needs to move on or is he somebody who feels he might want to stay?

"I don't know those details, but anyone who has anything about them wants to play football and to me he's a guy who thrives on playing games.

"I'll be disappointed to see him go if he does leave because I still think he has an important part to play for Arsenal."

Winterburn’s former teammate, Seaman, is of a similar opinion.

When asked whether he deserves a new deal, the former goalkeeper told Sky Sports, via the Metro: “I would say so, yeah. You don’t want to see people of that quality leaving the club.

“At the moment we’re finding it hard to attract those sorts of players so the last thing you want is them leaving. So for me, offer him a new contract.

“Hopefully, he’s happy doing what he’s doing, coming off the bench and making a real impact like he did against Palace. So, yeah, I certainly don’t want to see him go.”
