Nicole Kidman 'rejects' Rami Malek in #awkward Golden Globes snub

Awards season wouldn’t be awards season without an awkward snub, and the Golden Globes more than delivered when Nicole Kidman appeared to reject Rami Malek.

Kidman was onstage to present Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody with the Best Picture gong after it fought off competition from Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, If Beale Street Could Talk and A Star Is Born at Sunday night’s ceremony.

But Kidman didn’t seem too keen on congratulating Malek, who plays the late Freddie Mercury, and turned away from him as he attempted to go in for a hug.

Malek, 37, took the accidental snub in his stride and gently touched Kidman’s back as they applauded the producers of the biopic.

The awkward moment was captured by an eagle-eyed fan who shared the clip on Twitter alongside the caption: “Rami Malek trying to talk to Nicole Kidman is like me trying to talk to my crush #goldenglobes.”

Kidman was branded “so rude” for “ignoring” Malek’s first Golden Glone win.

One tweeted: “She ignored him, didn't even acknowledge him, how rude, most of those actors are up emselves any how why should Nicole kidman be any better.”

Another wrote: “She sure did a number on him! Rude a** lady, no class! Mr. Malek seems to always be such a gentleman no matter what. That award was well deserved! Congrats Rami!”

But others were quick to defend Kidman, who lost out on Best actress in a motion picture to Glenn Close, claiming she simply hadn’t seen Malek.

One tweeted: “Clearly she didn't see him, he was behind her. Some people always feel the need to spew negative comments on beautiful people. God help us.”

Another posted: “She probably didn't see him from up there.”

Malek was honoured for his portrayal of Mercury, picking up Best Actor in a motion picture at the 76th annual awards bash.

He thanked the legendary icon, who died in 1991, “for giving me the joy of a lifetime.” He said: “I love you, you beautiful man. This is for and because of you, gorgeous.”

Malek was joined by his co-star Lucy Boynton and Queen guitarist Brian May.
