Nicolas Pepe reacts to Man Utd transfer 'proposal' to Lille over £70m forward

Lille have reportedly rejected an approach from Manchester United for Nicolas Pepe.

Mirror Sport reported back in May that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen on a move for Pepe.

Arsenal , Liverpool , PSG and Everton have all been credited with an interest in Pepe, with Lille wanting around £70m for the 24-year-old.

Lille president Gerard Lopez stated earlier this week that a move to an unnamed club was imminent for the forward.

But reports in France suggest Lille have turned down a proposal from United.

It is unclear how much United were willing to offer for Pepe but Yahoo Sport France claims Lille were not interested.

Pepe is believed to be open to making the move to Old Trafford this summer with Solskjaer eager to bring in an attacking addition, should Romelu Lukaku complete his proposed move to Inter Milan.

The report also suggests Napoli are in the mix to sign Pepe with Carlo Ancelotti a keen admirer with discussions ongoing.

Pepe is believed to against joining a leading European side and wants to join another club as a potential stepping stone this summer.

Discussing a potential transfer for Pepe, Lille chief Lopez said: “Our work is done.

"In terms of departures and arrivals, if a player leaves, we will go and get what we need.

"For Nico, it is almost done and he could have left last summer.

"It is true that there are big offers and big clubs in for him, so I think (he will leave). Aside from that, you never know in football.”

Arsenal had been tipped to make a move for Pepe but they are unable to meet Lille's valuation.
