Nicola Sturgeon tests positive for covid and confirms she will work from home 'over next few days'

Nicola Sturgeon has tested positive for covid, she has confirmed.

The First Minister announced her positive test result this evening on Twitter.

She has said she will work from home "over the next few days", following advice from the Scottish Government and public health experts and plans to return to parliament next week.

It is the first time the First Minister has tested positive for coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic.

In her tweet, she said: "Unfortunately I’ve tested positive for Covid this evening after experiencing mild symptoms. In line with Scottish Government guidance, I’ll work from home over next few days, and hopefully be back out and about later next week."

Her political colleagues were quick to send their well wishes, with SNP Westminster group leader Ian Blackford responding: "Get well soon Nicola".

MSP Maree Todd added: "Hope it’s mild and you get well soon."

MP for Glasgow Central Alison Thewliss also sent her well wishes, saying, "Hope you're OK, rest up".
