After completing her route, which finished in Balloch, West Dunbartonshire, Sturgeon took to Twitter to praise the event, which she took part in on behalf of Who Cares? Scotland.

She also included a link to a fundraising page for one of the charity's representatives, Megan.

The FM wrote:"It was an absolute privilege to do the Kiltwalk with Who Cares Scot

"Here’s a link to donate if you want to or are able to support a brilliant organisation that does so much to help young people like Megan."

Kiltwalks are mass participation walking events that raise much-needed funds for Scottish charities and projects.

Participants fundraise for any charity of their choice and thanks to entrepreneur Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation, all funds raised will be topped up by 50 per cent.

Fellow walkers posed for pictures with the FM and took to Twitter to thank her for taking part.

Ryan McCuaig wrote: "Delighted to see so many people out in the sunshine Stepping Up for Who Cares? Scotland and care-experienced people today including Nicola Sturgeon who joined is for the Kiltwalk.

"Thank you First Minister for your continued support."

A team from Whitleys Retreat in Ayr, South Ayrshire stopped for a quick snap with Sturgeon too.

The team provide respite and support for children and their families affected by life-altering illnesses and cancer.

A spokesperson posted: "Lovely to bump into the First Minister of Scotland on the Wee Wander Kiltwalk this morning.

"The girls are full of beaming smiles clearly enjoying the sunshine and the great atmosphere of a live Kiltwalk event."

Walkers at the Glasgow-based event chose from three routes;the Mighty Stride, start in Glasgow Green, the Big Stroll, leaving from Clydebank and the Wee Wander, starting at Lomond Shores.

All three walks make their way out to picturesque Balloch.

Who Cares? Scotland is a national voluntary organisation, working with care experienced young people and care leavers across Scotland.
