Nicola Sturgeon reveals she has begun writing her debut novel

NICOLA Sturgeon has revealed that she has begun to write her debut novel, after her recently released memoir Frankly topped the bestseller charts.

The former first minister said she had a “wee seed of an idea” as she posted a photograph of a new notebook and a pen in front of a laptop screen.

Sturgeon, 55, said she intended to work away at the book “in any quiet moments” in the coming months.

The former first minister is currently taking part in a book tour, visiting various festivals across the UK, even making an appearance in Ireland last week.

Writing on Instagram, Sturgeon said: “I've been talking a bit recently about trying my hand at a novel. I have no idea if l've got what it takes but I've got a wee seed of an idea (no more than that) and really want to give it a go.

“So today I armed myself with a new notebook and in any quiet moments in the months to come, l'm going to see if I can turn my idea into something.

“By posting my plan here, I'm hoping to spur myself on.”

Sturgeon is still an MSP for Govanhill, with one parliamentary term left ahead of the Holyrood 2026 election, where she will stand down.

Sturgeon has faced renewed media focus in the weeks following the release of her memoir.

Alex Salmond's niecerecently accused her of showing "a complete lack of human decency" after new personal attacks against her uncle in the memoir.

Christina Hendry, who spoke at Salmond’s memorial service in St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh after his death from a heart attack last November, said Sturgeon's "actions are disappointing and unfair" and requested she stop.

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn also said he is “astonished” at the way Sturgeon described him in her memoir – and invited her to meet to talk it over.

At the official launch of her book, Sturgeon spoke out about the fresh abuse she had suffered in the days following its release.
