Nicola Sturgeon lockdown announcement confirms Scotland's secondary schools to reopen

Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed secondary schools across Ayrshire will reopen full-time to pupils following the Easter holidays.

The First Minister made the announcement as part of her routemap to take the country out of lockdown.

Only pupils who are on the shielding list will remain at home until April 26.

Pupils in S1-S3 have been forced to wait for their return to class but have now been given the green light as part of today's plans.

Strict two metre distancing will be in place in schools are part of a bid to keep virus transmission at bay.

Ms Sturgeon confirmed that she will set out plans for a more expansive reopening of the country on April 20 - ahead of the planned wider opening of the hospitality and retail sector on April 26.

The likes of garden centres, barbers and hairdressers were able to reopen from yesterday.

A further 259 positive cases of Covid were confirmed yesterday with no deaths registered.
