Covid Scotland: Nicola Sturgeon update today - what time it's on and where to watch it

Nicola Sturgeon is expected to give an update on Scotland’s lockdown to Parliament this afternoon.

Speaking last week, the First Minister confirmed that the planned move for most of Scotland to Level 0 restrictions from June 28 is likely to be delayed by a further three weeks.

She has also indicated that she would explain the next steps in the pandemic and confirm a new date in which the country will move to level 0, as plans on life “beyond level 0” are published today.

It comes after a further 1,250 new cases of Covid were registered across Scotland on Monday, June 21 with the actual number of new cases expected to be higher due to technical issues.

What time will the announcement be made at?

Nicola Sturgeon is expected to deliver the briefing live from Parliament in Edinburgh shortly after 2pm today.

Where can I watch it?

The briefing will be broadcast live on the BBC One Scotland channel as well as the Scottish Government Twitter page.

What is she expected to say?

Speaking about what to expect from the review last week, Nicola Sturgeon said: “Our next full review of the protection levels is scheduled for next week. This will consider whether any changes are possible from 28 June onwards – a date when we had hoped we would see the whole country move down to level 0."

"However, given the current situation - and the need to get more people fully vaccinated before we ease up further - it is reasonable to indicate now that it is unlikely that any part of the country will move down a level from 28 June.

"Instead, it is likely that we will opt to maintain restrictions for a further three weeks from 28 June and use that time to vaccinate - with both doses - as many more people as possible."

"Doing that will give us the best chance, later in July, of getting back on track and restoring the much greater normality that we all crave."
