Nicola Sturgeon announces 159 new coronavirus cases in Scotland

159 people have tested positive in Scotland for coronavirus in the past 24 hours, Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed.

The new figure takes the total number of positive cases across the country since the start of the outbreak to (X) 21,048.

Sturgeon announced there has been no hospital death from a positive case which occurred in mid August and has only now been confirmed, with the total number of deaths staying at 2,496.

258 people are currently being treated in hospital with four in intensive care, which is one fewer than yesterday.

Yesterday the First Minister announced the R number in Scotland could be as high as 1.4.

It comes as she criticised covidiots who invited 300 people to an illegal rave in a Scots mansion.

She branded the partygoers selfish, after police were dispatched to break up the shindig at a at £1625-a-night mansion in Midlothian on Saturday night.

Restrictions on people living Glasgow city, East Renfrewshire and West Dunbartonshire are still in place following a spike in the number of cases.

As a result more than 800,000 people will not be allowed to have anyone from another household in their home.

Scots have flocked home from holidays in Portugal today after the Scottish Government announced quarantine measure for all those travelling from the country as of 4am on Saturday, September 5.
