Nicola Coughlan teases an "extremely dramatic" Season 2 of Bridgerton

Actress Nicola Coughlan has teased that Season 2 of Bridgerton will be "extremely dramatic".

The TV show follows eight close-knit siblings who look for love and happiness in London high society, which was inspired by Julia Quinn's bestselling novels.

The Derry Girls star plays Penelope Featherington in the hugely successful show and spoke to E! Online about the upcoming series.

Speaking about her character, Nicola said: "You definitely see her mature more. I think of it in the Britney (Spears) thing, 'she's not a girl, not yet a woman' in this season.

"So she's more aware of the power she wields—that doesn't mean she's any better at using it. She definitely gets herself into some sticky situations.

"You definitely see a lot more of Penelope and who she is."

The 34-year-old added: "People are really not ready.

"There is one episode in particular, we [Nicola and co-star Claudia Jessie] like, fully gasped—it's extremely dramatic!"

In July, Bridgerton earned 12 Emmy nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Voice-Over Performance and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series.

Back in April, Nicola revealed that the popular Netflix series will also return for series three and four.
