Inverness extended their winning run to five games and strengthened their hold on third place in the Scottish Premiership table, courtesy of two second-half goals in a 2-0 victory at Hamilton. An improved second 45 minutes from John Hughes’s men was rewarded by an own goal from Grant Gillespie and a second from Nick Ross as Accies slumped to a fourth consecutive defeat.
Dundee United returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory against struggling Motherwell at Tannadice. A second-half brace from the midfielder Charlie Telfer allied to the defender Jaroslaw Fojut’s header proved enough for Jackie McNamara’s men, despite Simon Ramsden’s goal on 79 minutes for Ian Baraclough’s third-bottom side. This was Well’s fifth straight league defeat, during which they have conceded 17 goals, while United stayed fourth in the table.
Dundee fought back from a goal down to stretch their unbeaten run to five games in the Premiership with a 2-1 victory against St Mirren in Paisley. Kenny McLean put the home side ahead with a great strike before half-time, but Gary Irvine brought Dundee level against the run of play shortly after the break. The visitors improved in the second half, and Iain Davidson got the decisive goal through a deflection before St Mirren were reduced to 10 men late on with the dismissal of Yoann Arquin.
The result saw the hosts remain in the relegation play-off position.
Partick missed the chance to climb above Kilmarnock after a thrilling 2-2 draw at Rugby Park. Thistle took the lead in the second minute as Ryan Stevenson found the corner of the net from the edge of the area. Killie equalised in the 33rd minute, ending their run without a goal from open play after 742 minutes, when Josh Magennis fired a neat finish low into the bottom left-hand corner after fine dribbling by Rory McKenzie.
The Killie captain, Manuel Pascali, netted his side’s second, after previously having a goal disallowed for offside, in the 79th minute after applying the finishing touch at the back post to Craig Slater’s corner. But Thistle came back to equalise in the 83rd minute through an unlikely scorer in centre-half Frédéric Frans who found the net from the edge of the area.
In the Championship, Hearts slumped to their first league defeat of the season, losing 3-2 to Falkirk at Tynecastle. Hibs extended their unbeaten run to seven matches with an impressive second-half show to earn a 2-0 win at Queen of the South. The breakthrough came in the 63rd minute when Jason Cummings was brought down by James Atkinson and the goalkeeper failed to make amends as Dylan McGeouch made no mistake with the spot-kick for his second goal of the season.
