Soho House founder Nick Jones is to open his first hotel since stepping down as CEO of the private members’ club group in 2022.
The 90 bedroom St Clement hotel will be sited above his deli and café Corner Shop 180 on Arundel Street near Temple.
It will have a rooftop restaurant, a gym and 15 loft-style apartments, according to the Boutique Hotelier website.
Bath amenities will be provided by English perfumer Lyn Harris.
Corner Shop 180 opened at 180 the Thames in June, part of mixed-use development Arundel Great Court, combining a café, bakery, grocery and wine bar in one place.
The site is close Soho House flagship, 180 House on The Strand. It was acquired by Waterway PCP Properties in 2012 for £243 million.
The hotel, like Corner Shop 180, will operate under Jones’ new company, Jones & Co (Hotels, Restaurant and Residences).
Jones, 62, who is married to TV presenter Kirsty Young and was known as London’s “King of Clubs”, announced he was to step down at CEO at Soho House three years ago.
Jones revealed that his decision to step down came after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The cancer was caught early and successful treatment means he is now cancer free.
Jones said the experience “changed my perspective and focus” and that he would be focusing on the “creative and membership aspects” of Soho House moving forward.
Andrew Carnie, who had served as president of Soho House since September 2020 and was previously chief commercial officer, took over his role.
Jones opened the first Soho House above his Cafe Boheme restaurant on Greek Street in 1995. There are now dozens of houses around the world, as well as Soho House designed restaurants, hotels, cinemas and co-working spaces.
Lats month, Soho House was acquired by MCR Hotels in deal valuing the company at £2 billion that took it off the New York Stock Exchange.
MCR Hotels is the third largest owner-operator in the US and last year bought the Post Office Tower.
The investors include actor Ashton Kutcher who will join Soho House’s board of directors once the transaction is finalised.
Majority shareholder, billionaire executive chairman Ron Burkle, and founder Nick Jones will retain their stakes following the deal.
