NIA team examines murder spot, collects evidence from Udaipur

UDAIPUR: A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) examined the murdered tailor Kanhaiya Lal's shop in Udaipur Thursday morning.

Sources said 10 officials went to Lal's shop 'Supreme Tailors' in Bhoot Mahal area near Malda Street and inspected the crime scene.

Lal was murdered in the same shop by Gaus Mohammad and Mohammad Riyaz with a sharp cleaver on the afternoon of June 28. The shop has been closed since the murder.

The NIA team had returned to Udaipur on Wednesday night to probe the local connections of the two killers. A total of six accused, identified as Gaus, Riyaz, Mohsin Khan, Asif, Mohammad Mohsin, and Wasim Ali, have been arrested, so far. "The NIA team also searched the houses of the arrested accused," said a senior officer, adding that the agency was trying to recover some important evidence for the probe.

The agency's searches began early morning in the city and they also went to other sites connected with the six accused, including the suspected place where Riyaz and Gaus had recorded a video in which they gloated about beheading Lal and warned the Prime Minister, among others.

The team then went to a workshop at Sapetia on the outskirts of Udaipur.

Udaipur/Jaipur: The particular workshop was also checked by state police agencies during the initial rounds of investigation.

Sources said the NIA arrived in Udaipur following the interrogation of the sixth accused. Investigation agencies had also picked up multiple suspects to grill them about their ties to the conspiracy.

In its FIR, the NIA had said that the assailants had circulated the video of the murder on social media in order to to create panic and terror among people across the country.
