NI Coronavirus: 19 further Covid-19 related deaths recorded by DoH

The Department of Health has reported a further 19 coronavirus related deaths.

According to the latest update, all of the fatalities are said to have occurred within the current reporting period.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,517, according to the DoH.

Wednesday's dashboard update reports a further 1,145 positive cases of the virus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 91,809 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department say 8,325 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 869 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 56 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, as of Monday, 91,954 vaccines have been deployed here.

  • 68,664 have had a first dose (HSC staff and care home residents and staff) of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine
  •
  • 13,949 have received a second dose (mainly care homes where 55% of care homes have now had 2nd doses) of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine
  •
  • 9,341 already vaccinated by GPs with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine

In a statement, the Department of Health said: "We will all have to be patient as we await our turn. Please be assured that staff are working extremely hard to vaccinate as many people as possible as quickly as possible, as supplies permit.

"There will inevitably be frustrations along the way but everyone is urged to not take out these frustrations through ill-informed and unfair criticism of the work staff are doing."
