A doctor in the remote Northern Territory town of Nhulunbuy has been charged with more than a dozen drug and firearms offences.

Tim Blake, who works at Gove District Hospital, was arrested following a recent police operation in Nhulunbuy.

In a statement, Northern Territory Police said a 38-year-old man had been arrested in possession of methamphetamine and taken to Nhulunbuy Police Station for a drug test.

Police allege he tested positive for both methamphetamine and amphetamine.

"At a subsequent search of the man's residence, police seized further drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, ketamine and prescription medicines," she said in a statement.

Police said they also seized a registered firearm which was unsecured, as well as ammunition.

"A further four registered and secured firearms were also seized," Superintendent Foley said.

Dr Blake is facing 14 charges in total, including five counts of possessing a trafficable quantity of a schedule one dangerous drug, possessing a commercial quantity of a dangerous drug and possess a dangerous drug in a public place.

He is also facing driving offences, including driving with a prohibited drug in body, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, and the firearms offences.

Dr Blake appeared in Nhulunbuy Local Court last week and was granted bail. He will return to Darwin court in February next year.
