NHS Omicron scam texts making people pay for tests sent out to people in Leeds

People in Leeds have been sent a scam text telling them they have been in "close contact" with someone who has Omicron.

The text also includes a link to order a testing kit but when people click on the link they are asked for card details.

Several people have been sent the message over the past few days, which reads: "You've been in close contact with someone who has Omicron. Please order a test kit: (link)."

She said: "I clicked on the link, completed details but then it asked for delivery payment and all my bank details.

"I knew then that something wasn’t right."

Melanie did not put in any payment details but was almost conned because she knew she had been around the virus a lot recently.

She added: "I work in a high school and there's been a lot around since we came back after the Christmas break.

"My niece tested positive last week too so I was kind of expecting something. I know a lot don’t report their positive tests now as PCR tests aren’t needed."
