NHS confirm further 33 coronavirus deaths at North East hospitals

Another 33 people have succumbed to coronavirus in hospitals around the North East.

NHS England has released a breakdown of the latest deaths recorded across hospitals between 5pm on Monday and 5pm on Tuesday.

In total, more than 18,000 known deaths have announced in the UK since the start of the coronavirus crisis.

All of the patients included died in hospital and had tested positive for coronavirus.

The figures which are released each day often including previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago. This is because of the time it takes for deaths to be confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19, for post-mortem examinations to be processed, and for data from the tests to be validated.

The figures published today show April 8 currently has the highest total for the most hospital deaths occurring on a single day: 828.

Here is a breakdown of deaths by NHS trusts on Wednesday:

County Durham and Darlington - 4

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear - 0

Gateshead - 3

Northumbria - 3

South Tyneside and Sunderland - 11

Newcastle - 2

North Tees and Hartlepool - 0

South Tees - 10

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys - 0
