A house fire has claimed the lives of a beloved NHL reporter and her three children, leaving the sports journalism community in shock and mourning. Jessi Pierce, 37, perished alongside Hudson, Cayden, Avery, and the family dog in their White Bear Lake home, cutting short a life and career that had become deeply woven into the fabric of the hockey world.
As investigators examine the residence, public focus has shifted to the heavy impact on her surviving husband, Mike. Colleagues are reflecting on the vibrant family life she shared online, painting a heartbreaking picture of a devoted mother whose warmth and humour resonated far beyond the rink.
Early Morning Inferno Claims Family
The residential blaze broke out before dawn. Local fire crews got to the scene around 5.25am and found the entire house up in flames.
When the firefighters managed to push their way inside the burning home, they made a tragic discovery.
Fire Chief Greg Peterson addressed the loss. 'Our hearts ache for all those involved in this tragedy,' he stated. He added, 'We ask for the opportunity to allow our community to come together and support one another during this difficult time.'
Inside Jessi And Mike's Everyday Love Story
Beyond covering hockey, Pierce was known for candid reflections on married life. She frequently shared anecdotes about her husband, offering followers a window into their relationship.
In 2022, she highlighted his dedication. She tweeted, 'Today I'm grateful for a husband that will drive to Wisconsin where liquor stores are open because we forgot earlier this week 🤦🏼♀️Happy thanksgiving, ladies and gents!'
Last year, she posted about him catching her watching the film Miracle. She shared, 'Overheard on my husband's conference call: "Are you watching a game?" "No, my wife is just watching Miracle for the millionth time."'
Pierce never shied away from the realities of parenting. In 2021, she wrote, 'At the 11th hour my husband asked what I wanted to do tomorrow for Mother's Day. Tbh I just want to stay in bed, door LOCKED, play candy crush and binge some documentaries. Probs nap at will, too. That's all fine, right?'

The NHL Community Mourns A Passionate Voice
Pierce built a respected career after graduating from Iowa State University. She contributed to USA Hockey, the Minnesota Hockey Journal, and the Bardown Beauties podcast.
The National Hockey League issued a statement. 'The entire National Hockey League family sends our prayers and deepest condolences to the Pierce family on the passing of Jessi Pierce and her three young children,' the organisation declared. They added, 'Jessi loved our game and was a valued member of the NHL.com team for a decade. We will miss her terribly.'
Michael Russo of The Athletic offered a poignant tribute. 'Jessi Pierce (Hinrichs) was the most vibrant person — the life of the party, always with a smile on her face, always bringing a passion to every article and podcast and interview she did,' he shared online.
Russo mentioned Mike while reflecting on the heavy atmosphere among reporters. 'Life can be unbearably unfair sometimes, and it's impossible to make sense of this tragedy. A lot of tears were shed at the arena yesterday. We, in the Wild media and inside the Wild, will miss seeing Jessi every day, laughing with her every day. The press box and press room won't be the same without her.'
There are no words to express how heartbroken we all are.
