NFL to have expanded playoff format in new CBA proposal

Every team that just missed the playoffs last year will be in favor of the new NFL playoff format. It will expand the number of playoff teams in each conference from six to seven according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

That’s 14 playoff teams instead of 12 which means that nearly half the NFL would get in the playoffs.

Schefter added that part of the new format would also reduce the number of teams with a first round bye from two per conference to one. So, only the number one seed gets a bye and everybody else’s road will be longer.

This also means there will be 12 teams playing on in the opening round for a total of 6 games. That is good news for the NFL because it means two more playoff games than before; one per conference. That’s straight cash, homie. And that’s what the NFL is all about. It’s the same reason the idea of 17 regular season games is currently being proposed as well, while eliminating a preseason game.
