NFL Regional Combine Invitational to take place at Chiefs’ practice facility

The Kansas City Chiefs will be the host of the NFL Regional Combine Invitational in 2019.

The event will take place on March 9 at the University of Kansas Health System Training Complex. That is where the Chiefs practice and train during mandatory minicamp and the regular season.

This event focuses on the top 100 draft-eligible college players who were not invited to the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Prospects perform on-field workouts; go through measurements, medical and mental evaluations; and have their talents evaluated by NFL scouting personnel.

Regional combines have previously produced NFL standouts such as Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen, Rams punter Johnny Hekker and even Chiefs offensive lineman Austin Reiter. Think of this event as a combine specifically for the hidden gems in the 2019 NFL draft.

The inaugural season Regional Combine Invitational was held last year at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice facility. The league previously held several smaller regional combines yearly but has turned them into one event with a much bigger budget.

The NFL used last year’s event to debut new technology to assist in the scouting process. They’ll likely do something similar in 2019, and if the event is a success, the University of Kansas Health System Training Complex could become a repeat location for the annual event.
