The Jacksonville Jaguars continued to add help to the most important unit on the team with the addition of defensive tackle Al Woods Monday night. Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the deal is for a one-year contract worth $2.75 million. One million of that will be guaranteed.
Woods, 32, will be the Jags’ oldest player when he puts pen to paper. The title was previously held by Nick Foles (who still is listed on the official page) at 31 years of age. Woods was a fourth-round pick (No. 123) in the 2010 NFL Draft out of Louisiana State University for the New Orleans Saints. Since he’s been a journeyman but his last stops were with the Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, and Seattle Seahawks, respectively.
Woods will provide the Jags with a veteran who flourishes against the run in the interior. Last season while with the Seahawks, Woods accumulated 32 tackles, one sack and a Pro Football Focus grade of 70.3.
Woods will join a defensive tackle group that currently includes veteran Abry Jones, Taven Bryan, Dontavius Russell, and Brian Price. However, the possibility of adding another defensive tackle should still be on the table for one of the Jags’ early draft selections.
