Neymar 'willing to take 50 per cent pay cut' to force Barcelona transfer from PSG

Neymar is reportedly willing to take a 50% pay cut to force through a transfer from Paris-Saint Germain back to Barcelona this summer.

The Brazilian attacker is desperate to return to the club he left two years ago when PSG signed him for £198million.

The problem for Neymar is that, due to the financial impact of the coronavirus crisis, clubs don't have the spare cash to meet PSG's asking price.

With the 28-year-old having turned down the offer of a new contract earlier this year, the newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions are looking to recoup most of the money they paid for Neymar - although it is thought they will accept around £132m.

And Neymar is ready to grease the wheels of a transfer by agreeing to halve his £600,000-per-week wages, according to Mundo Deportivo.

That stance will not please PSG bosses, after Neymar was one of the players who rejected wage cuts amid the coronavirus crisis.

But his contract expires in 2022, and the club may have to let him move on rather than lose him for less next summer.

That will just leave Neymar to sweat on whether or not Barcelona can actually afford to sign him, as the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic continues to be felt.

Barcelona are also targeting Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez - who is believed to have a £98m release clause and would therefore represent the more cost-effective deal.

The Catalan club's players have already accepted a 70% pay cut in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak, and in what is almost certain to be a difficult transfer market this summer, Barca anticipate struggling to sell players who are surplus to requirements, such as Philippe Coutinho.

It has been claimed that Barcelona have already lost £124m as a result of the coronavirus crisis, and that may mean Neymar is forced to stay put or consider moving to another European heavyweight.
