Next step for Bears K Eddy Pineiro: How does he handle success?

While Eddy Pineiro’s performance against the Colts wasn’t enough to outright win him the kicker job, it was a confidence boost for a team desperate to find resolution at the kicker position.

Pineiro has been sharp this preseason, connecting on 5-of-6 field goals this preseason, including a 58-yarder most recently against the Colts. His only miss came from 48 yards.

But just as it was important to see how Pineiro responded after a rough game (against the Panthers) and how he dealt with being the only kicker (against the Colts), Nagy will be watching to see how Pineiro does after experiencing success.

“How are you gonna handle it when you do well?” Nagy said, via the Sun-Times. “But how cool was it to see the team react the way they reacted to him making that? To seeing Eddy react the way he reacted?

“He knew it was a big kick. Now he gets more opportunities this week, hopefully.”

Pressure has been the name of the game during the kicker competition that came to an end last Sunday. And while Pineiro is the last kicker remaining on the roster, at this time, Nagy will keep the pressure on.

Pineiro hasn’t won the job yet, and the Bears could certainly look to the trade market before cuts are made on Saturday or the waiver wire on Sunday.

But it sure feels like Pineiro made a statement last Saturday against the Colts. Barring a bad game against the Titans on Thursday, Pineiro appears to be the guy in Chicago.
