Newmains drug offender spared jail after family pay £10,000 for rehab stint

A drug offender’s family paid £10,000 for him to go through rehabilitation, a sheriff was told this week.

Euan Robertson, 22, of Dougan Drive, Newmains, was spared a prison sentence at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

He admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine at his home and other locations between August 10 and September 13.

Robertson also admitted being concerned in the supply of ecstasy.

Defence agent Diarmid Bruce said his client’s drug use had landed him in a difficult situation, but he is now determined to put that behind him.

Mr Bruce added: “His family spent £10,000 on his rehabilitation.

“They have taken this very seriously.”

After studying background reports, Sheriff Moira McKenzie said there was no need to refer Robertson to social workers for assistance.

The sheriff ordered him to complete 175 hours of unpaid community work.

She said: “There is no focus for supervision given all the positive work you have done, supported by your family, since the offences.”
