Newlyweds charge guest £3.66 for eating extra slice of cake after reviewing CCTV footage

A wedding guest claims he was caught on CCTV munching an additional piece of cake, with the newlyweds turned amateur sleuths having checked over footage from their special day. According to this baffled guest, the happy couple messaged him a few days after the wedding, ordering him in no uncertain terms to pay up an extra £3.66 "asap."

He claims the guests were all asked to pay towards the costs of the cake on the big day, which he did. However, they weren't best pleased after learning he'd gone and helped himself to another slice, and sent over a very curt message indeed.

People couldn't believe the text message (Screenshot of the text messages)

Taking to Reddit, the flabbergasted man, who goes by the username u/Unlucky_Low_6254, wrote: "I paid for the first slice after it was announced on the day we'd be helping to pay for their cake!! Apparently didn't count for the second."

He went on to share a screengrab of the awkward text exchange, which begins with what appears to be CCTV footage of the guest caught in the act.

After he responded that he didn't understand what they meant, the couple replied: "Hey so we were just looking at the CCTV and saw you had two pieces of the wedding cake.

"We announced that each guest must pay per slice and noticed that you only paid for the one. Can you please send the £3.66 asap."

A number of fellow Reddit users were left aghast that the pair would spend their first days as a married couple chasing up such a seemingly inconsequential payment.

One person joked: "Love to spend my first precious days as a newlywed reviewing CCTV to see which of my loved ones I can shake down for £3.66".

Another suggested: "I'd reply with 'consider my gift as payment and in that case you owe me the difference... so please send your payment of (whatever amount) immediately'."
