Newcastle United 4-1 Brighton player ratings: Trippier shines, Wilson and Almiron on song

Newcastle United walloped Brighton & Hove Albion to stay on course for the Champions League on a night that will be talked about for years.

Goals from Deniz Undav into his own net, Dan Burn, Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes completed the rout at St James' Park to leave the Seagulls stunned.

Undav pu the visitors ahead following Kieran Trippier's in-swinging corner kick. Burn pounced on a Trippier free-kick on the stroke of half-time to double the lead.

After the break, Undaz scored at the other end before Callum Wilson and Bruno made it 4-1.

Did the unattractive stuff and helped break the game down. Made eight fouls, many of them good ones.

A really unselfish display as he kept Brighton under the cosh. Excellent in the air.

How Newcastle stars rated in the first half:

Nick Pope 7

Has been a spectator for most of it. Held on well to Danny Welbeck's rare Brighton effort.

Kieran Trippier 9

Sent in a peach of a corner which flapped Deniz Undav into heading past his own keeper. And then another quality cross from the free-kick for Burn's header.

Fabian Schar 7

Whacked on the nose but playing on through the pain barrier.

Sven Botman 8

Serving up another Dutch defensive masterclass so far.

Dan Burn 8

Usual determination and unlucky to see effort roll wide. But may have put the lid on game with goal against his old club!

Bruno Guimaraes 8

Making things tick in the middle. Some sumptuous touches.

Joe Willock 7

Has found some openings in Brighton back-line.

Joelinton 8

Has created a few problems for Brighton and earned corner that led to the opening goal.

Certainly getting into positions without the cutting edge.

Alexander Isak 8

Is a thorn in the side of Brighton. Some clever play.

Callum Wilson 7

One penalty shout turned down. Working hard.
