Newcastle United transfer rumours as Magpies sent Paul Pogba warning and Toon eye Botman and Doku

A round-up of your Newcastle United transfer rumours on Friday, 18 February.

Simon Jordan's sends Newcastle Paul Pogba warning

Simon Jordan believes an approach for Paul Pogba would be the statement signing that Newcastle need to make, but questioned whether the Magpies would have enough pedigree to attract the French International.

Pogba's contract is up at the end of the season and there's been plenty of speculation surrounding his future at Old Traffod.

Jordan said on talkSPORT: “If you have got no transfer fee for Pogba, then most of these clubs can afford to pay XYZ.

“I don’t know whether he is going to go at 200 grand a week, I suspect it would be a lot more than that and that might be the stumbling block.

“But if Newcastle were to make a statement then those are the kinds of statements you would think they would make.

“I just don’t think Newcastle have enough pedigree irrespective of the project or the embarrassment of riches for Pogba to go there now.

“This is his last big contractual move, he will still want to win things and there still going to be a gestation period between Newcastle being a club with immense wealth into a winning club.”

Newcastle United won't give up in pursuit of Sven Botman as talks continue for Dutch star

Newcastle United's pursuit of Sven Botman is ongoing - despite the emergence of Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign the Dutchman.

Botman stayed at Lille after a bid close to £50million for the Holland Under-21 international did not persuade the Ligue 1 club to sell this winter.

But the door was left ajar by Lille and Botman's agent Muy Manero to return with a summer offer.

Chronicle Live understands that Amanda Staveley and the Toon board were keen on Botman and are ready to go into battle with AC Milan and Spurs to land his signature.

The Ripon financier played a big role in pushing for transfers in January and believes Botman is the type of European star the club should rightly be pushing for these days.

Newcastle can also blow both Milan and Tottenham out of the water when it comes to wages if they wanted but the key will be whether Botman sees the Magpies as serious contenders in the Premier League or not.

Newcastle United monitoring exciting Belgium international winger Jeremy Doku

Newcastle United scouts are keeping tabs on exciting Belgium international winger Jeremy Doku.

Chronicle Live understands that another spending spree is on the cards at St James' Park this summer as Newcastle look to strengthen in every position in the next window.

Doku has been on United's radar before but the £22million rated 19-year-old, who has suffered with both knee and hamstring injuries is being monitored by head of recruitment Steve Nickson and his scouting team.

The Rennes star has 10 Belgium caps and two goals to his name at international level and has been tracked by Liverpool in recent seasons.

Doku can play either left-wing or right-wing and worked under former Newcastle star Craig Bellamy at Anderlecht, where he made a positive impression.
