Newcastle United recruitment hint ahead of January window as boss praises club's 'decision making'

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe believes that the club's "decision making" process on transfers bodes well for the forthcoming January window.

It remains to be seen how much Newcastle will splash out in the winter trading period but after signing stars like Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes last January, Howe knows his scouting and recruitment team can be relied on again.

Howe said: "We knew January was going to be hugely important (last year). "We didn't think it would be necessarily defining because we believed we had enough in the squad to stay in the league.

"But we knew that we needed help for those players so then it's a question of how good is your work going to be in the transfer market because you can make things worse.

"So we are really grateful for the work that the whole team put in to bring those players in, they turned out to be the right players and we are delighted with our decision-making."

Howe has worked closely with the head of recruitment he inherited in Steve Nickson and his scouting team but also the addition of Andy Howe has bolstered the club's talent spotting department.

Howe, speaking to beIN Sports, said: " "One of the most important things you'll ever do is who you bring into any organisation. "Your recruitment process has to be correct.

"Thankfully at the moment it looks like it's going OK. "We will be tested in the future for sure but those players we have brought to the football club, not just in terms of ability but also mentality, have added great things to the group so hopefully that's a good sign."
