Newcastle United loan watch as Elliot Anderson scores again and Kell Watts helps Wigan secure promotion

Elliot Anderson and Kelland Watts were two of Newcastle United's loanees that starred for their respective clubs over the weekend.

Anderson has been in sublime form of late for Bristol Rovers, while Watts helped Wigan climb back up to Championship at the first time of asking as Champions.

Matty Longstaff was also on hand to help Mansfield Town to a 2-2 draw against Salford City in League Two. ChronicleLive looks at how the Magpie's loan contingent fared in their latest round of fixtures...

Elliot Anderson

Dubbed 'the Geordie Maradona' by Bristol Rovers supporters, Anderson has been in excellent form for Joey Barton's side of late scoring four goals in his last five games.

However, his latest goal could have been his most important to date for Rovers, with Anderson bagging a 95th minute winner to help his loan side to a 4-3 win over Rochdale.

It was 19-year-old Anderson's seventh goal of the League Two campaign and ensured that Barton's men have secured a spot in the play-off places. They do have a chance to leapfrog third-place Northampton this coming weekend too and secure automatic promotion to League One.

Kelland Watts

One player who will be returning to Tyneside this summer full of confidence is Kelland Watts, who helped Wigan secure the League One title with a 3-0 win over Shrewsbury.

The 22-year-old signed a new deal with Newcastle in February and has been a mainstay in the Latics team this season making 35 appearances in all competitions.

Watts is a promising defender and could be ready to be part of Newcastle's squad next season. However, it might be prudent to extend his loan at Wigan through next season, giving the young defender a full season of Championship football.

Matty Longstaff

Matty Longstaff played all 90 minutes in Mansfield Town's League Two clash against Salford City. Salford took the lead after two minutes before a first half brace from Stephen McLaughlin saw Mansfield go into the break up 2-1.

An equaliser came for Salford just after the interval and leaves Longstaff and co sitting in fifth place in League Two, a point behind Anderson's Bristol Rovers.

Barring an unfortunate final day drubbing they should make the League Two play-offs and, like Rovers, still have a chance to go up automatically.

Elsewhere...

Joe White didn't feature for Hartlepool in their 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe while Freddie Woodman was an unused substitute for Bournemouth in their 3-0 win over Blackburn. Jeff Hendrick was an unused sub as QPR fell to Sheffield United 3-1 on Friday.
