Newcastle United linked with free transfer move for England striker Danny Welbeck this summer

Newcastle United are set to be offered Arsenal and England striker Danny Welbeck this summer.

The 28-year-old is expected to leave the Gunners at the end of his current deal and the Magpies are thought to be one of the clubs who will have his name punted towards them.

However, despite suggestions that United will move for the player in the next window - regardless of whether Rafa Benitez stays or not - Toon sources are cool on the name of the 42-times Three Lions international.

Welbeck has missed most of this season with an ankle injury but is now eyeing a fresh start and La Liga outfit Valencia are also in the hunt for the striker.

When asked about his fitness recently, Unai Emery said: "It’s difficult for him to play matches this season but he is progressing very well and maybe the doctor will tell us he can come train with us in the last weeks of this season.

"After that his individual thing is to speak with the club."
