Newcastle United hit by two "longer-term" injuries as problems mount up for Eddie Howe

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has been rocked by two long-term injuries.

The Toon head coach does not expect Federico Fernandez or Jamal Lewis to be back until the new year.

Both missed the 4-0 loss to Manchester City, and Howe reflected: "I think they’re going to be longer-term.

“We don’t expect them back for the foreseeable future, unfortunately.

"Jamal’s a very strange one early in the game against Liverpool.

"I know he hadn’t had a lot of football, but that was a really big blow for us at the beginning of that match, and Feddy, it looks like it’s going to be around the same length of time."

Newcastle went into the game against Pep Guardiola's men without Jonjo Shelvey and Javier Manquillo.

Shelvey has suffered a muscle strain while Manquillo is down with illness, although it is not Covid-related.
