Newcastle United have a professional deal on the table for hot prospect Dylan Stephenson

Newcastle United have a new deal waiting on the table for hot prospect Dylan Stephenson.

The 18-year-old found himself in the headlines over the weekend after blasting in a first half hat-trick against Leeds United in the FA Youth Cup.

Stephenson's performance came in front of watching first-team boss Steve Bruce who was in the stands against the Yorkshire side.

The 4-1 win set up a home tie with Watford in round five with the last 16 clash potentially taking place at St James' Park later this month.

Stephenson is set to sign a new professional contract in the summer after impressing with both the Under-18s and Under-23s this season.

The winger, who also demonstrated he can play as a striker against Leeds, has been with the club since the age of 14 after playing for Newcastle City Juniors.

The Blyth lad is part of a promising crop of youngsters which includes Joe White and Elliot Anderson.

Speaking about Stephenson's superb showing against Leeds, coach Neil Winskill told the club website: "I'm thrilled for Dylan because he is such an honest, hard-working lad.

"He's the type of player any team would like to have in their XI, who's going to really put a shift in for you.

"Every game and training session, the physical stats come through and he's always top of the charts but we had a chat during the week about the need for him to be consistent with his quality, and he spoke to me about how he thinks people will judge him on goals.

"He hadn't scored as many goals as he wanted to thus far, and to see him score three today was the icing on the cake after that conversation, so I was chuffed to bits for him."
