Newcastle United player ratings: Longstaff and Trippier carry Magpies during hard fought draw

Newcastle United had to come from behind to snatch a draw at AFC Bournemouth on a tough day in Boscombe.

Going in against two banks of four at the Vitality Stadium, Newcastle found it tough against the Cherries and struggled to create clear-cut chances. And they were undone by a set-piece from which Argentina international Marcos Senesi had time and space to prod home.

Thankfully for the Magpies, Miguel Almiron was on hand to equalise on the stroke of half-time after good work from Sean Longstaff. But Newcastle could not find a winner on a day of frustration.

Bournemouth vs Newcastle United LIVE - Updates from Vitality Stadium

Here's how the Magpies rated overall on the South Coast:

Nick Pope 7

On hand to push away Anthony's effort but left exposed for the opener from Senesi. Had Trippier to thank for last gasp clearance.

Kieran Trippier 8

How important was that late clearance off the line? Kept the team going on a day in which he also pumped in 16 crosses.

Fabian Schar 7

Stayed composed with five interceptions. Saw first half header flash wide.

Sven Botman 7

Steady enough but will be furious with manner of opener. And picked up a booking late on.

Dan Burn 6

Ouattra got across him for the goal. Picked up in the second half but had late scare before Trippier hooked clear.

Joelinton 7

A battling display and picked up a late yellow card.

Joe Willock 6

Never recovered from an early knock. Played on with heavy strapping before being replaced by Anthony Gordon.

Sean Longstaff 8

A commanding display as he held the midfield together in Bruno's absence. His eye for goal with a well struck shot led to equaliser. Man of the match.

Allan Saint-Maximin 7

Played a big part in the equaliser after a frustrating start. Suffered injury late on. Getting closer to what he does best.

Miguel Almiron 7

Struggled at first but was on the spot to find a leveller. A gutsy second half effort before coming off with an injury.

Alexander Isak 6

A couple of telling runs but not the big impact fans hoped for so far tonight. Poor marking for the goal if Senesi was his man. Couldn't find killer touch late on.

Subs

Anthony Gordon 7 (for Willock 35)

Looked lively after coming on for Willock. Some telling runs and created a few problems.

Jacob Murphy (for Almiron 81)

Elliot Anderson (for Saint-Maximin 84)

*Subs must play 15 minutes to gain a mark.
