Newcastle United fall out of top 50 on global club rankings list

Newcastle United have fallen out of the top 50 of the global club rankings list, according to FiveThirtyEight.

FiveThirtyEight is a predictions site that forecasts the outcome of matches and league tables from across the world of football, as well as providing a ranking of 645 international clubs.

The Magpies have dropped seven places from 45th to 52nd. They have been leapfrogged by the likes of Lille, Marseille and Club Brugge.

Premier League champions Manchester City top the rankings, with German giants Bayern Munich and Liverpool in second and third respectively.

Including City and Liverpool, 10 Premier League clubs rank above Newcastle in the list, including: Chelsea (6th), Tottenham (10th), Arsenal (17th), Aston Villa (25th), Brighton (26th), Crystal Palace (35th), Leicester City (36th) and West Ham United (39th).

The Magpies sit one place above Brentford, who were previously above Newcastle in the rankings, while Wolves (58th), Everton (71st), Leeds United (80th), Southampton (85th), and newly-promoted sides Fulham (108th), AFC Bournemouth (115th) and Nottingham Forest (121st) are below Eddie Howe's side.

Newcastle's arch rivals Sunderland sit 339th in the rankings, climbing a massive 80 places from the last list. Newcastle are sandwiched between Lille and Brentford in the table, with Mainz - who the Magpies played in pre-season, taking up the final spot of the top 50.

Newcastle's overall SPI rating - a score which combines defensive and attacking ratings - is 68.6. The full list can be found here.
