Tim Krul's warning ahead of Newcastle United clash with Norwich City
Former Newcastle United favourite Tim Krul has dealt his side a warning ahead of Norwich City's relegation battle with his old club.
The Tuesday night clash sees Krul and co arrive on the back of a 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers with Norwich now three points ahead of the Magpies.
Krul, now 33, started his senior career on Tyneside and will still be on the end of a positive reception before the serious stuff starts.
And Krul has warned his team-mates that they face a tough test, he said: "It’s a huge game up there, not an easy one because they still haven’t won, but they’re a top team on their day and especially at home, so we can’t underestimate that.
"But we need to look at ourselves. If we hit the targets like we have in the last three games, I think we’re going to be fine."
What Eddie Howe heard after Arsenal game has put Merson, Bruce and Jordan Newcastle myth to bed
Newcastle United had just suffered a predictable 2-0 defeat against Arsenal yet it was the travelling support who were loudest at full-time.
Each loss makes Newcastle's survival mission that bit harder, but the Geordies in the away end were still defiantly chanting 'Who's that team you call United?' and ' Eddie Howe's black and white army' long after the final whistle on Saturday.
More than 3,000 Newcastle fans had battled Storm Arwen to, somehow, make it to the game in the first place and staff and players made sure to go over to salute the supporters at full-time.
A week previously, the players were applauded following the Magpies' 3-3 draw against Brentford and thousands of supporters even stayed behind at St James' Park that evening for a lap of appreciation.
Newcastle may be bottom of the table and six points from safety after failing to win a game all season, but there is no danger of the fans turning on their side.
It is easy to see why both Howe and assistant Jason Tindall have repeatedly stressed how the supporters will play their part this season at a time when the players are lacking confidence.
"I thought they were absolutely amazing for us," Howe told NUFC TV after the Arsenal defeat.
Gary Lineker and Jermaine Jenas agree on Newcastle United transfer situation
Gary Lineker has predicted that Newcastle United will find it difficult to sign new players in the January transfer window after watching their performance against Arsenal yesterday.
Speaking on Match of the Day following highlights of Newcastle ’s 2-0 loss away to Arsenal, the former England striker said Newcastle are ‘in trouble’.
With Newcastle offering very little in attack, the programme’s pundits, former Magpies midfielder Jermaine Jenas and Micah Richards, instead focused on defensive failings.
Lineker started the analysis by saying of Newcastle: “Still without a win. Still without a clean sheet. They’re in trouble.”
To which Jenas responded: “And you can see why in performances like today. I thought for moments they looked okay today but then when it really came down to it, some of the decision-making defensively is just all over the place and shocking.”
Where is Federico Fernandez, Callum Wilson concern and Eddie Howe's Newcastle United points plan
Newcastle United joined a unique club after going down 2-0 at Arsenal as they became only the sixth top-flight team to start the season without a victory after 13 Premier League matches.
The Magpies now enter the unwanted club along with Swindon (93/94), Derby (2000/01), Norwich (2004/05), QPR (2013/14) and Sheffield United only last term.
Only the Rams pulled away from danger back in 2001.

Back then it was former Newcastle boss Jim Smith that put together a much better second half of the campaign, including wins over Man United, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Aston Villa, to stave off the threat of the drop and relegate Man City no less!
Eddie Howe is still confident he can pull Newcastle away from danger and in fairness to the former AFC Bournemouth boss he has only had a couple of weeks working with them on the training ground.
After the game, he spoke about the need to "imprint" his philosophy on the players but he frustratingly spent most of last week holed up in his hotel room.
The average points per game Newcastle need for Premier League survival
Newcastle remain rock bottom of the Premier League after this weekend's round of fixtures and are six points away from safety.
Eddie Howe will take charge of his first game at St. James' Park against Norwich knowing it's a must win for the Magpies.
The Canaries have been revitalised under new boss Dean Smith, taking four points from their last two games, leapfrogging the Magpies in the process.
Newcastle have just six points from their opening 13 Premier League fixtures and risk being cut adrift from the rest of the division.
It's the Magpies worst ever start to a Premier League season, but with 75 points still to play for, all is not lost.
We've taken a look at the points tally needed to ensure Premier League survival for the past ten seasons.
Since the 2011-12 season, the average points needed to ensure survival is 35 points.
Newcastle told to prioritise replacements for 'old defensive unit'
Paddy Kenny has told Newcastle's new owners they need to strengthen the 'old defensive unit' if they're to stave off relegation this season.
The Magpies have kept just one clean sheet in the Carabao Cup against Burnley and have conceded more than one goal in nine of their 13 Premier League games this season.
Eddie Howe's side have the worst defensive record in the division having conceded 29 goals in the opening third of the season and need a vast improvement if they're to survive relegation.
Newcastle have not signed an out and out centre-half since the arrival of Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar in the 2018/19 transfer window.
Their back line has had some investment with the likes of Emil Krafth and Jamal Lewis, but both of whom are not considered first team regulars.
