Newcastle United evening headlines as 'jealous' takeover claim made, Rafa Benitez stance

Here is your Newcastle United evening headlines on Sunday, October 10.

Agbonlahor says critics are 'jealous'

Gabriel Agbonlahor believes that those in football who are against Newcastle's £305m takeover are 'jealous' of what they could achieve under the new owners.

A Saudi-led consortium purchased the club from Mike Ashley on Thursday, sparking jubilant scenes outside St James' Park.

However, there has been some criticism around how much money is involved but Agbonlahor has no problem with it at all, saying that others would want the same.

The former Aston Villa man told talkSPORT : "I don't see a problem with it at all. Other clubs are just jealous they didn't get these owners in.

"Let's look at Manchester City, when I played them in 2008 I scored a hat-trick against them because they were bang average at that time. They got the big takeover and look at them now.

"Let's not just pick and chose which clubs should have takeovers."

Newcastle fans on Conte

Antonio Conte is reportedly interested in becoming the new Newcastle manager should the position come available after a Saudi-led consortium took over at the club.

Chronicle Live understands that Conte, who has been heavily linked to the Newcastle job, is open to a return to the Premier League and is keen to learn more about the potential opportunity.

The vast majority want the Italian to take charge, but one fan was less keen and admitted he would rather have current Roma coach Jose Mourinho at the helm instead.

Benitez stance revealed

Rafael Benitez has been linked with a sensational return to the Magpies after the takeover was completed but he has issue his stance amid potential speculation.

Steve Bruce is under increased pressure following their start to the season, with Newcastle second bottom on just three points from seven matches.

A number of coaches have been linked to replace the 60-year-old should the new owners decide to appoint a new manager.

Benitez is one of them having previously managed the club under Ashley, although the Spaniard decided to leave after three years in 2019.

Now in charge of Everton, Benitez made a good start to life at the Toffees, losing just once in all competitions so far and has been praised for the way he's gone about his business.

Despite rumours suggesting him with a return to St James' Park, The Daily Mail claim that the Madrid-born boss will remain committed to his current club.

Benitez has a logical affinity for Merseyside stemming from his years at Liverpool, and it seems there would not be much sense in abandoning his strong start.
