Newcastle United could unearth very own Bruno Fernandes or Martin Odegaard with summer signing

Newcastle United could unearth their very own Bruno Fernandes or Martin Odegaard with the signing of Dominik Szoboszlai this summer. The Magpies have been linked with a move for the RB Leipzig playmaker, who has been impressive in the Bundesliga this season.

The Hungarian international is one of the brightest talents in European football and Newcastle are looking to bolster their squad ahead of their Champions League campaign next season. The latest reports claim the 22-year-old is on the Magpies summer shopping list, having helped the Bundesliga side with the DFB-Pokal, scoring in a 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Macro Football claims Szoboszlai is the closest thing Newcastle could get to unearthing their own Fernandes or Odegaard this summer. The Leipzig playmaker has a 99.7 per cent similarity to Manchester United's Portuguese playmaker, while also boasting a 97 per cent similarity to Arsenal's Norwegian talisman.

The latter of the two was one of the standout performers for the Gunners in their push for the Premier League title and scored at St. James' Park as Mikel Arteta's side ran out 2-0 winners. The arrival of Szoboszlai would give the Magpies a new dynamic in the heart of midfield and provide a considerable upgrade on their current squad.

However, with RB Leipzig expected to ask for a fee in the region £60million, the Toon may well be priced out of a move. Atalanta's Ukrainian midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi has a 95 per cent similarity to that of Szoboszlai, but is unlikely to join the Magpies this summer, given an obligation clause in his current loan deal with French side Olympique de Marseille if the terms have been met.

25-year-old Croatian Lovro Majer, has a 94.7 percentage similarity to RB Leipzig's schemer and spent last season at Rennes in Ligue 1. The midfielder registered two goals and five assists in 32 top flight appearances in France and has a reported market value in the region of €20million.

Finally, 18-year-old Monaco midfielder Edan Diop, has a 93.9 per cent similarity to Szoboszlai and has plenty of potential moving forward. The Ligue 1 side are not known for selling players on the cheap and Diop's metrics suggest he could be the next talent of their conveyor belt.

He played just eight times for the French outfit last season and has a contract that runs until the summer of 2025.
