Saturday Night Takeaway comes to Newcastle as Andi Peters invades restaurant

Saturday Night Takeaway prompted crowds to gather on Newcastle's most famous street as a city centre restaurant had a starring role on Ant and Dec's show.

As you'll know if you've watched any of the new series, Andi Peters appears live on location from a restaurant or takeaway van every weekend, with one of the most memorable ones so far seeing Jason Donovan visit kebab business Jason Donervan. And on Saturday it was the turn of Newcastle's Sushi Me Rollin' to get in the spotlight as former CBBC host Andi and his Takeaway crew came to Newcastle city centre.

The business, which started life in nearby Stack, has become a huge hit with Geordies and has now expanded to have two restaurants - the one in Grey Street that featured on the show and another in Whitley Bay. Sushi Me Rollin's appearance on Takeaway saw the Grey Street branch closed as the restaurant appealed for regulars to come along and join in the fun.

Taking to Facebook on Friday night they posted: "If you wanna come down and be in the outside crowd feel free to join around 19:00 (20’000 people on Grey Street could be a bad idea but here we are!)"

Returning after a week off as ITV cancelled Takeaway to make way for Six Nations rugby, Ant and Dec looked delighted to be crossing to home turf from their studio in London.

After driving up to the front of the restaurant in a child's ride on car as Chamilionaire's Ridin' sounded out, Andi, who was very taken with the name of the business, went inside to speak to owner Simon who joked: "I was promised Ant and Dec." Scores of people gathered behind crowd control barriers to get in on the action and try and get themselves on TV.

Sushi Me Rollin' was on TV again near the end of the show as Andi gave details of a competition live from inside the restaurant, with one of the prizes being a brand new electric Fiat 500 which was parked outside on the street.
