Newcastle midfielder 'leading the way' while on trial for MLS club FC Cincinnati

Newcastle United midfielder Kyle Scott has impressed while on trial at MLS club FC Cincinnati.

The midfielder flew out to the USA earlier this month to work under former Reading boss Jaap Stam - the man who tried to sign the 23-year-old while he was at Chelsea.

Saturday saw Cincinnati beat Chicago 2-1 in a pre-season friendly in which Scott played the second half - having a hand in the second goal as he opened the play up to the right-hand side with a lovely curling pass.

Scott's performance was lauded on social media and by reports of the game with the website Cincinnati Soccer Talk noting the midfielder played a 'leading role' in the second 45.

Scott signed for Newcastle back in July 2019 - turning down interest from Barcelona - but failed to break into the first team and hadn't featured for the U23s since November 2020.

It's understood that the Magpies still have the power to exercise a one-year extension on Scott's deal which runs out this summer but look unlikely to do so.

Scott's trial at Cincinnati runs for six weeks.
