Steve Bruce urges fringe players to win themselves a spot in his XI
Steve Bruce has left the door open for those who impress tomorrow night against Morecambe to potentially be in the XI against Spurs on Sunday.
Speaking at his press conference today, Bruce was asked if some of tomorrow's team could play on the weekend too.
"Absolutely. That's the one thing that we need a squad for.
"I've picked a team that is big enough and strong enough and fit enough to go and make sure we get in the next round so, yeah, it's an opportunity for them to state their case for the weekend."
Allan Saint-Maximin fitness boost
The flying Frenchman should be okay to face Spurs on Sunday - according to Steve Bruce.
Saint-Maximin limped off against Brighton with an ankle injury but the Toon head coach is hopeful his star man can recover in time for the game on Sunday.
