Newcastle boss Steve Bruce offers the latest on Allan Saint-Maximin's hamstring injury

Steve Bruce is waiting for feedback from Newcastle United’s medical team on Allan Saint-Maximin.

The French winger was taken off early in the 1-0 win at Spurs and faces further assessment at the club’s training ground today.

The former Nice man is a big doubt for the League Cup clash with Leicester City on Wednesday night at St James’ Park.

“It’s too early (to say)," the Newcastle boss said.

“Saint-Maximin is a recurrence of a hamstring, and that’s a nightmare for us unfortunately.”

But Bruce feels that the knocks suffered by Joelinton and Christian Atsu will be fine.

He added: “The other ones, we’re not too worried about, although whether they’re going to be ready for Wednesday is another big call. “Certainly Saint-Maximin is the most difficult one because he’s had a recurrence of a hamstring, which is a shame for him.

“Big Joe has run himself to a standstill I think.

“Jamaal has got a calf injury, but we don’t think it’s too serious.”
