Newcastle boss Eddie Howe makes Nottingham Forest prediction and sends 'incredible' message

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe believes Nottingham Forest will be a "dangerous opponent" in their Premier League opener at St James' Park on Saturday (3pm).

The Reds will make the trip to Tyne and Wear to kick-off their campaign in the top-flight after securing promotion through the play-offs last season. Steve Cooper and co have so far made 12 signings this summer to boost their chances of staying in the division - though more additions are set to arrive through the door before the transfer window closes on September 1.

The Magpies, meanwhile, have also been active in the window, signing a total of seven players. With focus set on this weekend's clash, Howe hailed the job done by the Trentside team with a special mention to Cooper.

"We've had a good chance to watch them both last season and during pre-season," Howe said in his presser. "They'll be a dangerous opponent and Steve deserves a huge amount of credit.

"You look at their league position from when he joined and the job that he did. Not only to miss out on automatic promotion but then to deal with that and come through the play-offs. Incredibly difficult thing to do."
