Newcastle and Steve Bruce get deadline day boost ahead of Arsenal visit

Newcastle United have received a deadline day boost ahead of the Premier League fixture against Arsenal.

The Magpies have confirmed the signing of Sweden international defender Emil Krafth from Ligue 1 side Amiens for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £5m.

The 25-year-old right back becomes new Newcastle manager Steve Bruce's fourth signing of the summer following the captures of Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Jetro Willems, and should be included in the match day squad for the opening game against Arsenal on Sunday.

The 25-year-old made 35 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, but only made his loan deal into a permanent one at the French club earlier this summer.

The new Newcastle man was part of the Sweden squad that reached the quarter final of the World Cup in 2018, playing 85 minutes of the 2-0 defeat to England in his only start in the competition.

Magpies manager Bruce explained why he chose to take the full-back to St James' Park.

Arsenal: 2019/20 season preview

"We're pleased to bring him here," he told the official Newcastle website. "He turned 25 last week and has great experience, with more than 20 caps for Sweden and having played in the top flight in three different countries.

"He's a good height for a full-back, speaks excellent English and is a very good player. He's a really good acquisition."
